HOW WE STARTED

Supporting charitable causes across the UK, tanzania and many other countries since 2016.

The Goodall Foundation, known as tGF, has been supporting charitable causes across the UK and worldwide since 2016. The concept for the Foundation, and the impact that could be made, started long before.

In honour of Sylvia and Robin Goodall.

Andrew Goodall, Founder and Chairman, established the Foundation in honour of his parents, Sylvia, and Robin Goodall.

Sylvia, a Founding Member and Patron, was the spark that ignited the Foundation’s flame, her story starting 10 years earlier, in rural Tanzania.

Tanzania

Sylvia fell in love with the Ngorongoro region and its community during a safari holiday in Tanzania in 2006, following a chance meeting with a Tanzanian teacher in the Serengeti; the beginning of a friendship that would last for decades and a legacy that will last even longer.

This friendship saw Sylvia returning to the region on multiple trips; engaging with this rural community to understand the challenges that are faced on a socio-economic level.

Formation

Andrew was invited by his mother to join her on a trip to Tanzania several years prior to starting the Foundation, and the pair went on to visit thousands of children across many schools in the region. They met with politicians, Maasai leaders and other influential decision makers, and following years of charitable enterprise, the Goodall Foundation was formed, combining Andrew’s business know how and charitable enterprise under one roof.

Andrew had been supporting various charities and carrying out his own projects and initiatives for over twenty years. In 2016 Andrew decided to bring his charitable work under one foundation and formed The Goodall Foundation, known as tGF, which he named in honour of his parents.

In the first couple of years Andrew donated a significant amount of money and took the decision that he wanted to invest all these funds over the next couple of years to empower children and young adults to change their lives for the better.

This was achieved by taking on a small group of amazing people to carry out projects directly, and to support many other charities and individuals also doing amazing work. The funds were invested in 14 countries, the UK, in particular Brighton. Seven of the countries tGF worked in, was on one project were tGF designed and delivered an educational program on behalf of the British Council and HSBC.

In 2019, following the investment of the initial donations, it was decided that tGF would evolve into a family run foundation focusing on work in the UK and Tanzania. Mark Jarman Trustee, Sylvia Goodall Patron and Peter Manjalla, our Tanzania Manager, have given so much of their time to ensure that the charity’s activities have been delivered efficiently and effectively maximising the impact of the donations.
